Hello

Well, hello out there, it has been many years since I have posted in here, but that is all about to change. It is January 2016, really 2016, where have all the other years gone? Next week marks the start of the new school year, a short term but never the less it will no doubt be busy. Prep students will start the transition to school in their shiny new shoes, uniform and over sized bags, I love to see the excitement on their little faces. Again I will send a reminder to all drivers travelling in and around schools to slow down and obey the speed signs, park legally and all will be good. This year is the bienniel school crossing supervisor of the year. So download the nomination form, complete and send to us, we love to hear the stories.

It Has Been a While

Hello everyone, it has been a few months since I last posted but we have since moved over to our new look website, I hope you like it.

In the world of school crossings there have been a few incidents of people being struck by cars, in Geelong a fatality involving a young boy on a bike and also again in Geelong a school crossing supervisor was struck by a car, the driver\'s windscreen was fogged up in the later, and as a result someone got injured. This is a reminder to all supervisors to be vigilant and stay safe out there at all times, and to the drivers, slow down and don\'t drive with fogged up windows....hello!!!!

Where is the Year Going?

Hello Everyone, I hope you are all enjoying the school holidays and Easter Break. I was lucky enough to sail the Whitsundays on a 7 day cruise, relaxed much and ate too much chocloate as I suspect we all did! Usually school holidays is a quiet time for us, but not these. An article appeared in the Herald Sun in relation to the shortage of Lollypop People and that has generated alot of interest in this job. Yes in some areas there is a shortage of school crossing supervisors, we need people that are dedicated to road safety and keeping our children safe. You need to be relitively fit and able to move off the road quickly in the event a car is not going to stop. You need to be able to step up and down kerbs, hold a stop sign that weighs up to 2 kilos, be able to blow a whsitle and work in Melbourne's famous inclement weather (4 seasons in one day). If you think you might like to do this PAID work, then contact your Local Council. Another hot topic in relation to school crossings is some will be closing. The realtity is if not enough people are using them then they will close. Council's receive a small amount of funding from the State Government for school crossings each year and in order for us to receive this funding the crossing must meet certain warrants (Cars using the road and people crossing within the hour), we encourage people walking to school to use the school crossings when they are in operation. If you have any concerns about a school crossing you need to contact the Council in which the crossing is located. Next week we start Term 2, traditionally this is the season of cool and sometimes foggy mornings, so always be alert and never complacent, make sure you put out your stop sign at the 45 degree angle, giving the motorist time to react and slow down safely, before you step onto the roadway. This is a great job, keeps you active and in touch with your community, so stay safe out there.

Welcome to Term 1 2013

I hope eveyone enjoyed their break and are now back into the swing of things, how time flies. There is not alot to report this week, so I just wanted to welcome everyone back and touch base. I enjoyed a 3 day P & O Australia day cruise in Sydney Harbour with 32 School Crossing Supervisors. We had a wonderful time and it was great to spend time with work collegues in a relaxed social atmosphere. On the Sunday our cruising in the Ocean was cut short due to the storms that were lashing the central NSW coast and Queensland, so the water was quite rough, not suffering from sea sickness that did not bother me. On a business note, I have posted some links to recent newspaper articles in relation to State Government cuts to funding for the munipiality of Frankston. If you missed them they are worth a read. Stay Safe out there, remember to think sun smart, stay cool, take a water bottle and sunscreen.

Recognition after Something Horrific

Judy Grant was struck by a car on November 30th 2010, and received multiple life threatening injuries. After 10 days in Melbourne’s Alfred Hospital and 3 months in Epworth rehabilitation she returned to work at Traffic Lights in July 2011. Judy was not 100% after the accident, and was unable to hold a Stop sign so she was assigned to working at the traffic lights. Also in July 2011 Judy was the face of Worksafe Victoria’s “Return to Work” and was featured alongside swimmer Michael Klim.
